I installed mandriva linux 2006 free edition from the installer dvd and everything was working fine. But It does not mount CDroms and DVDroms. When i try to mount it, the shell just hangs. I cannot go back to the shell by pressing ctrl-c.

I tried going to the rescue mode, but in rescue mode, it mounts cdroms but does not mount dvd's and says that file system type udf is not supported. But, I "INSTALLED" madrake from a dvd. It does not even detect the installer dvd if i insert it. I do not know why this problem is occuring. Has anybody faced this problem before. please help me. I am a newbie to linux.

I have a dell inspiron 6000 laptop and i have a CDRW/DVDROM combo drive.
It detects it as some philips drive or something.
