Has anybody done benchmarks for the power use of the Pentium M vs the new Duo Core in actual use under Linux? Tom's Hardware did some benchmarks (http://www.tomshardware.com/2006/01/16/will_core_duo_notebooks_trade_battery_life_for_qui cker_response/) but they hit a Windows bug (http://www.tgdaily.com/2006/01/28/toms_hardware_uncovers_power_drain_issue/). I know that the same bug won't show up in Linux, but that issue makes it clear you need to look at interactions between the OS and the whole system; has anybody done this?
In general, how good is the power management on Linux now? Can I expect battery life to last as long or longer than Windows, particularly if I add optimizations like spinning down the hard drives?
