This
laptop is operating under Kernel version 2.2.16-22
Basic Installation of Red Hat 7.0:
- I used the three CD set that came with Red Hat Linux For Dummies
- Nothing to it. Booted from CD 1, and accepted all the workstation defaults (except the display), and added a few packages (samba, dhcpd, abiword, gimp, ssh)
- Network SMB printer on a Win2k box installed without a problem using printtool
- I tried installing Mandrake 7.2, 8.1, 9.0, and Red Hat 6.1, 7.0, 7.2, 7.3, and 8.0. Of all these, the only one that completed the installation and booted afterwards without a hitch was Red Hat 7.0.

I could not get the GUI to work in Mdk 7.0 and RH 6.1; Mdk 8.1 and 9.0
installed fine, but ran so slow as to be useless; RH 7.2 and 7.3 would
not finish the installation without freezing.
Setting up additional features for Red Hat 7.0
Getting Suspend-to-Disk to operate correctly - I haven't tried; I don't know where to look for this.
Getting the touchpad to operate as more than a PS/2 mouse (what does this mean?)
Unresolved issues
Internal modem does not function. Linux drivers exist for this winmodem, but I could not get RedHat to recognize it. Windows 98 reports it functioning on COM2/IRQ3. Knowing that was not helpful.
This has nothing to do with Linux: can anyone tell me how to get into the BIOS of this thing?
