I have a compacq presario 1244 laptop computer that I want to run with a linux operating system. I have downloaded sam on a CD but it would not work. I need to find a simple system that I can download and install in the computer. When the operating system is installed I will want to install other programs as I do with my current windows operating system. If anyone has some suggestions as what to do next it would sure help out an old duck

I ordered the Mandrake disks off the Internet for about $10.00 and installed it to my Compaq Amanda 700m. It works better than the old Windows 2000 did. I did do a hard drive wipe and loaded Linux with no problems. I you are trying to keep Windows on the hard drive you may have more problems.
