I was surprised to see almost everything work on this laptop, except for microphone which didn't work and the fact that the sound doesn't switch from speakers to headphones when you insert them into jack - i.e. no jack sensing was available. This was cured by installing the latest ALSA and adding this line to /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf:
options snd-hda-intel model="olpc-xo-1_5"
And restart the system. Also I would highly recommend to install the "GNOME ALSA mixer" where you will find all the necessary checboxes, one of which turns on the mike. Another way to adjust the settings is to run "alsamixer" command from your terminal, where everything will be pretty obvious.
The installation of Ubuntu as a second OS was very easy without any need for repartitioning or whatever, without using CDrom of bootable flash. Just download the latest .iso image of Ubuntu and also download the tool Wubi.exe (google it). It automatically does everything for you!
I was impressed how smoothly Ubuntu was installed onto this laptop, and was impressed by how well it works. Although I have spend hours to find out how to get sound working. I hope this tip helps you.
